When you ask me what my favorite flower is, I would simply say it’s tulip.

But if you ask me on a deeper level, I would say that I don’t mind what kind of flowers I receive because my mind is stuck on the thought of you thinking of me when you pick up a bouquet. You know nothing about flowers, so you ask the florist to choose the most beautiful ones to portray your feelings for me and request a note to be slipped between the petals. The fact that you spend a little money on a bouquet I never asked for, knowing that I cross your mind when you think of flowers – or as you would say, I never cross it because I stay there, rent-free.

The truth is, I don’t mind which flowers you pick, what colours I prefer, and how I like my bouquet to be wrapped, because all I can think of is that you have me in your mind. Flowers will wilt anyway, but I will keep looking at them each day until they turn yellow and brown and can no longer stand straight. Even as they fade, they remind me of your thoughtfulness and the love that lead you to choose them for me. When I see those flowers, I don’t just see their colours and beauty. I see the effort you made, the way you care, and the simple but profound gesture of thinking about me.

I wonder what goes through your mind when you go to a flower shop with no knowledge about flowers and put all your trust in the florist to arrange them for you. Which little creature or emotion in your head drives you to do so? Does the thought of me smiling and thanking you for your sweet gesture motivate you? Are you doing it because the internet suggested it? Did you go to Reddit or ask people around what would make me happy? Did you go through all that just to see me smile?

If that is so, do you think it’s possible for us to walk together through every season of life?
