There’s something special about the feeling of being noticed and acknowledged. Being seen, understood, and appreciated is a privilege often taken for granted.
It can come in big and small forms like being remembered for little things, receiving genuine praise for our accomplishments regardless of the outcome, being looked at with eyes full of love, or being hugged just because.
It reminds us that we are a part of something larger than ourselves, and that we each have a role to play in the lives of those around us. I believe we leave a trace of love in everyone we encounter. Each person we meet holds a piece of us, and it remains with them.
It may seem like a bare minimum for some people but as for someone who is heavy on being seen, it is something I will appreciate for a long time.
I could go on and on about this because honestly, people tend to overlook the privilege of a loving glance or arms wrapped around them. The privilege of being noticed and seen as someone worthy, someone who deserves to be cared for even when they cannot care for themselves – there is great comfort in that privilege, to be acknowledged is to be made valid.
To be valid is to be loved.
To be seen and heard is to feel love.
To feel love is to feel a sense of belonging, support, and understanding, and to have the security of knowing that someone cares for you deeply.
It’s the energy and warmth that radiates without needing words to be understood.
There’s something comforting about people acknowledging your existence, showing that you’re not just a passerby nor a temporary place for someone to stay but an active part of the world around you that is worthy of attention and understanding.
Again, to feel seen is to feel validated, valuable, and appreciated for who you are, rather than being ignored or overlooked. It’s a privilege, to know that someone has taken the time and effort to notice and respect you, and that your presence matters to them.
The world may not be as kind as we hope, but knowing that we can be part of this harsh world and make it better by acknowledging and being acknowledged by others is something I will never underestimate.
Not everyone is good at expressing their concerns, so look after your loved ones. And allow me to look after you as well.
